കൊച്ചിയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വിനയ് കുമാർ ബാലകൃഷ്ണൻ 2018ൽ മൗറീഷ്യസ് ആസ്ഥാനമായുള്ള ഒരു ഇൻഷുറൻസ് കമ്പനിയുടെ സിഇഒ ആയി ജോലി ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ദുബായിൽ നടന്ന ഒരു പാർട്ടിയിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു. അവിടെ ഭക്ഷണം വിളമ്പിയ പ്ലേറ്റ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. ഗോതമ്പ് തവിട് കൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ച ബയോഡീഗ്രേഡബിൾ (പ്രകൃതിയിൽ അലിഞ്ഞു ചേരുന്ന) പ്ലേറ്റുകൾ അങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നു ആദ്യമായി അദ്ദേഹം കണ്ടത്. ആ ‘കണ്ടുമുട്ടൽ’ പിന്നീടുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കരിയർ തന്നെ മാറ്റിമറിച്ചു.

“ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഉൽപ്പന്നങ്ങൾ ഇന്ത്യക്കാർക്ക് വേണ്ടിയുള്ളതല്ല എന്നതായിരുന്നു അവരുടെ മറുപടിയുടെ ചുരുക്കം. അതെന്നെ രോഷാകുലനാക്കി. ജോലി ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യയിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങാനും അത്തരം പ്ലേറ്റുകൾ നിർമ്മിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കമ്പനി ആരംഭിക്കാനും ഞാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു,” വിനയ് കുമാർ
